Property Ownership and Status

The Norwalk Station property is owned by Norwalk Power LLC.  Starting in the late 1800s and continuing through 1958, the property was owned by the Manresa Institute and used as a retreat. Thus, earning the name Manresa Island.

In 1958, the property was purchased by Connecticut Light & Power (CL&P) and a coal-fired generating station was constructed. In 1972, the generating station was converted from coal to oil. In 1999, NRG purchased the station from CL&P and operated the plant until June 2013 when it ceased operations.

The redevelopment of Norwalk Station is envisioned to be a sustainable, economically sound and productive reuse that adds value to the Norwalk Harbor region.
